On The Rocks TV
This show
is not currently being aired.
There
was a great show about
off roading! It was called "On The Rocks TV"
and it is was shown on The Outdoor Channel network.
Off-Road enthusiasts enjoyed this off-road adventure television
program. Designed with something for everyone, "On The Rocks TV," with
host David Ihrig and world famous off-road expert Rick Russell,
introduced the viewer to the "Dirty Thirty", a group of real characters
with 4WD rigs as they explored the back roads and trails of America.
This show was aired in 2008. The producers are
working on new episodes for 2010.
You can go to the producer's website
www.OnTheRocktv.com to learn more about the show, watch a promo
video and get info about the cast of characters. This weekly 30 minute
reality-based program introduced viewers to the sport of off-road
driving through a combination of challenging four-wheeling feats,
technical segments, interviews with the drivers, trail cooking segments
and picturesque backroads throughout America.
On the Rocks
was the creation of Coast Media Teleproductions, in Orange County,
California (not Rick Russell). It began with the
vision of Executive Producer/Director, Art Royce
who passed away in 2009. The primary goal of the show
was to get more people to
understand that the trails need to remain open and protected for the
generations to come, not from them.” On the Rocks allowed the
viewer to experience four-wheeling through the eyes of every generation,
from a four-year-old and his teenage siblings to his great-grandparents.
Each show followed
members of the “Dirty Thirty,” a family-friendly group of four wheeling
enthusiasts that share a love for the outdoors, as they led viewers
into river-carved canyons, over enormous boulders, all in the name of
adventure and preservation. The “Dirty Thirty” was comprised of people
from all walks of life, each with a unique personality and an intriguing
story about what got them hooked on this unusual sport.
Viewers
saw the
“Dirty Thirty” overcome the challenges and enjoy the adventures of
four-wheeling in some of America’s most scenic back-country. Both
exciting and informative, this show enlightened the audience about
the value of respect for the environment and how to protect our
vanishing natural resources. Many of the drivers are involved with trail
clean-up and various environmental projects.
Trail boss, Rick
Russell, a well-respected and long-time advocate of off-road
driving, hosted weekly technical segments that demonstrate and explain
such topics in plain English as choosing the best tire size and how to
use a winch. These tech segments helped new 4-wheelers learn how to set up
and use their vehicles like seasoned off-roaders, increasing safety
while minimizing the impact on the environment.
PS, Rick was just an "actor" in this show. We don't have input on any of
the production details, who gets to be in the show, which episode will
air, etc. We are just hoping the show
will begin again. The 13 episodes aired
twice during the first six months of 2008.
The producers are hoping that an additional 13
episodes will be shown during 2010. And no matter
what happens, you know that Rick has fun doing anything related to four
wheeling.
